About the 2020 Census

The U.S. Constitution mandates a census of the population every 10 years.  The 2020 Census will count everyone who lives in the U.S. as of April 1, 2020.  Census statistics help determine the number of seats each state holds in the U.S. House of Representatives and how billions of dollars in federal funds will be allocated by state, local, and federal lawmakers every year for the next 10 years.  If you’ve already responded or no longer want to receive 2020 Census response reminders, click here and we’ll remove you from future reminders.

Update on 2020 Census Operations

The Census Bureau continues to carefully monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and follow the guidance of federal, state, and local health authorities.  The Bureau is adjusting some operations with two key principles in mind: 1) protecting the health and safety of our staff and the public, and 2) fulfilling our statutory requirement to deliver the 2020 Census counts to the President on schedule.
