Every year this mother Mallard lays her eggs in the potted tree outside our zoo doors. She loves the place so much, she has come again in spite of the “goose-chasing-dogs” who frequent the front yard. The dogs are learning (slowly) not to bother “Mama.” If they get too close, she dutifully flies from the nest to the outside fence, while the zoo staff scold their dogs vigorously. The dogs now duck their heads apologetically and stand quite still when they see her.
