TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2018

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT AN ELECTION WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2018.  THE POLLS WILL BE OPEN FROM 7:00 A.M. TO 8:00 P.M.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that candidates of the following partisan offices are to be voted for in St. Joseph County: US Senator, US Representative in Congress, Governor, State Senator, State Representative, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Board of Education, University of Michigan Board of Regents, Michigan State University Board of Trustees, Wayne State University Board of Governors, Justice of the Supreme Court, County Commissioners, Township Offices, and such other partisan offices that may by law be required to be nominated at the primary.

THE FURTHER PURPOSE of the election is to vote on the following proposals as presented and listed below:

STATE PROPOSAL(S)

INITIATIVE TO AUTHORIZE AND LEGALIZE POSESSION, USE AND CLUTIVATION OF MARIJUAN PRODUCTS BY INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER, AND COMMERCIAL SALES OF MARIJUANA THROUGH STATE-LICENSED RETAILERS

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO ESTABLISH A COMMISSION OF CITIZENS WITH EXCLUSIVE AUTHORITY TO ADOPT DISTRICT BOUNDARIES FOR THE MICHIGAN SENATE, MICHIGAN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

AUTHORIZE AUTOMATIC ELECTION DAY VOTER REGISTRATION, NO-REASON ABSENTEE VOTING, AND STRAIGHT TICKET VOTING; AND ADD CURRENT LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MILITARY AND OVERSEAS VOTING AND POST-ELECTION AUDITS TO THE MICHIGAN CONSTITUTION

COUNTY PROPOSAL(S)

COMMISSION ON AGING MILLAGE RENEWAL AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY TO LEVY .75 OF A MILL ($0.75 PER $1,000 OF TAXABLE VALUATION) FOR A PERIOD OF SIX (6) YEARS FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF OPERATION MILLAGE FOR THE CONTINUATION OF SENIOR SERVICES THROUGH THE ST. JOSEPH COUNTY COMMISSION ON AGING.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE PROPOSAL(S)

GLEN OAKS COMMUNITY COLLEGE ADDITIONAL MILLAGE AUTHORIZING THE GLEN OAKS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT TO INCREASE THE LEVY 0.50 OF A MILL ($0.50 PER $1,000 OF TAXABLE VALUATION) FOR A PERIOD OF SEVEN (7) YEARS FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE ST. JOSEPH COUNTY CAMPUS

 VILLAGE OF CENTREVILLE PROPOSAL(S)

FIRE PROTECTION MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION SERVICE MILLAGE AUTHORIZING THE VILLAGE OF CENTREVILLE TO LEVY 2 MILLS ($2.00 PER $1,000 OF TAXABLE VALUATION) IN PERPETUITY FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF FIRE PROTECTION EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS are available for all elections; registered voters may contact the local clerk to obtain an application for an absent voter ballot.  You may vote by absentee ballot if you:

  • Are unable to attend the polls without assistance;
  • Are 60 years of age or older;
  • Expect to be absent from your city or township for the entire time the polls are open on election day;
  • Are in jail, awaiting arraignment or trial;
  • Have been assigned to work as a precinct inspector in a precinct other than where you are registered; or
  • Are unable to attend the polls because of religious beliefs.

Please contact your City/Township Clerk for information regarding absentee ballots. The last day for absentee ballots to be mailed is Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.

All electors who are registered with the clerk in which they reside are eligible to vote at this election.  To comply with the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), voting instructions will be available on audio tape and in Braille.  Arrangements for obtaining the instructions in these alternative formats can be made by contacting the local clerk in advance of the election.  All polling locations are accessible for voters with disabilities.
