CITY, CMS Recognized for Redevelopment –
Former Essex Wire, Brownfield Site:
On Tuesday, January 30th, the Governor’s office held a press conference to highlight the need for future brownfield redevelopment funding. The Governor will be announcing his plan for a replacement of the Clean Michigan Initiative funding to address contaminated properties. One of the projects used to showcase the success of brownfield funding is the Central Manufacturing Services redevelopment project at the former Essex Wire property in Three Rivers. This project will be highlighted as an example of the success and impact the Clean Michigan Initiative program has had and the need to continue with additional funding moving forward.
The linked file* provides a summary of the “Three Rivers Sheffield Industrial Site” (formerly Essex Wire), redeveloped by CMS (a local warehousing company) into a truck maintenance and wash facility. CMS has expanded into a regional transportation and logistics company, putting down permanent roots in southwest Michigan. The City of Three Rivers hopes to use tax increment revenue from this development to expand its riverwalk along the adjacent St. Joseph River.
